By using the "2 notes one way, 1 note the other way" pattern of the Sequence of Thirds, but applying it to a string-skipping pattern, you can get some really interesting melodies. When I do this, I generally use my picking hand's middle finger to do one note of HYBRID PICKING for that final single note on the previous string, just so my pick doesn't have to go back for it. (This will be the 5th note in each 6-beat pattern, before the sweep; E on the 1st string in the first phrase, then G in the 2nd phrase, both at the 12th fret.)
